Insight ‘Mobility Retail Round Table’ Group expands into Foodvenience

James Gale (L) and Dan Munford (2nd R) on the recent Mobility Roundtable visit to ELDRIVE + Reitan Lithuania
Insight Research has been running its ‘Mobility Retail Round Table’ since June 2021. Sponsored by Vontier, this online sharing group has played an important role in assisting the roadside retail convenience industry rethink business models to take advantage of new ‘charging on the go’ opportunities and develop new propositions to appeal to both B2C and B2B EV drivers, maximise charger utilisation and conversion rates to get drivers out of the electric vehicles into the store.
A large majority of EV customers prefer charging stations with amenities and this gives our industry a strong position to adapt. Going forward, while still working to optimise the charging experience, it is clear that the further development of foodvenience offers, utilising increasingly sophisticated foodtech will further increase this lead, giving consumers what they want in different day-parts. After all, consumers may charge or fuel their car once a week, but they can fuel their body three times a day. To maximise this opportunity, Insight’s Mobility Retail Round Table group will further expand the foodvenience focus of its content and group visits in addition to its EV Hub benchmarking.
Insight’s Mobility Retail Round Table current members include: Parkland (Canada/US), Metro Oil (Philippines), Orange Retail (KSA), Viva Energy/OTR Group (Australia), Nouria Energy (USA), Maxol Group (Ireland), Moeve (Formerly CEPSA, Spain), Group F DuFresne (Canada), Westmorland Family (UK), ONroute (Canada), DCC/Certas Energy (Nordics), Migrolino (Switzerland) and ADNOC (UAE).
- The core of Insight’s Round Table is a quarterly, retailer guided 2 hour virtual meeting.
- Given the rapidity of change in this space, the regularity of this online information exchange allows our members to efficiently stay on top of developments in multiple countries. And we regularly secure thought leading presentations during these sessions from the global leaders in this space.
- Over the past four years, there has been a great deal of online sharing of best practice between our members who consequently feel that development time has been reduced substantially.
- Because of the size of our group and the nature of our mission on behalf of the convenience and roadside convenience retail industry, we enjoy unique early access to developments in e-mobility as they happen globally. This means that members have the chance to visit and see things for themselves ahead of others.
Brian Donaldson, CEO of Maxol Group and one of our members, kindly wrote this:
“In preparing for the changes to mobility and especially the shift to EV ownership over the next decade, it is has been extremely valuable to be part of the ‘Mobility Retail Round Table’ project established by Insight Research. The access to the latest trends in Scandinavia, experts from around the world and learnings from other more advanced markets to Ireland has helped guide our understanding of evolving consumer behaviours and the latest technologies. The wealth of knowledge and openness to sharing information across the group has supported Maxol to develop a roadmap for our own charging network”.
Next Quarterly Meeting
Our next group virtual meeting takes place on Thursday, 11th September at 1pm UK time. Contact us for more information and to join the group. Working together we will move the industry forward.
