Dash In CEO, Blackie Wills: elevating every aspect in food service
The latest episode of The Future of Convenience podcast offers a deep dive into Dash In, a game-changer in the convenience store industry. Hosted by Carolyn Schnare and Frank Gleeson, this inspiring conversation features Blackie Wills, president and CEO of The Wills Group, who shares the innovative journey behind Dash In’s Chantilly, Virginia store. This location recently earned third place in the prestigious Insight Research “Best Foodvenience Store in the World” competition.
During the episode, Blackie explains the vision behind Dash In’s third-generation prototype store, which sets a new benchmark for convenience retail. “This store represents years of innovation,” Wills shares. “From its entirely new menu and architecture to introducing a concierge service, we wanted to elevate every aspect of the customer experience.” The concierge concept, staffed by dedicated team members, ensures every guest feels welcomed and supported, with personalized guidance through Dash In’s diverse offerings, including fresh food and beverages.
“We’ve taken convenience staples like donuts and chips and given them a fresh, elevated twist. From in-house fried potato chips flavored in small batches to smash burgers made with fresh Angus beef, every item is crafted with care,” shares Blackie. The menu also features innovative options like freshly made quesadillas, grab-and-go items prepared daily, and even a robot-powered smoothie station.
The store’s community-centered philosophy also takes the spotlight. “We believe in taking care of the communities we serve,” Wills emphasizes. “From supporting food banks to revitalizing parks and restoring waterways, we’re committed to creating strong, lasting connections.” The Chantilly store even incorporates thoughtful touches like an outdoor handwashing station for families, underscoring its role as a hub for local engagement.
Frank Gleeson, who visited the store with Carolyn in the fall, praised Dash In’s efforts, saying, “The quality and depth of what you’ve created are rare. Your food, especially the french fries, rivals top-tier hospitality establishments.”
