Learning from the Ladies of Loyalty: Cynthia Pritchett and Jeannie Amerson on building engagement that lasts

Recorded live at the NACS Show in Chicago, this episode of The Future of Convenience Podcast gathered two industry leaders who have spent their careers shaping what customer loyalty means in today’s competitive retail landscape. Executive Vice President and Consultant at W. CAPRA and former long-time retailer Jeannie Amerson, and Cynthia Pritchett, director of IT at Daily’s convenience stores, joined host Carolyn Schnare and co-host Erin Sunderman, customer success director at Liquid Barcodes, for a thoughtful discussion on the future of loyalty from program design to technology integration to what’s next for customer engagement.

Amerson, a longtime industry contributor and strategist, reflected on how the conversation around loyalty has evolved. “I do have extensive background in the industry, been in it for over 25 years, and I’ve been on all sides. So I’ve worked as a retailer, I have worked on the consulting side, and I’ve even worked on the technology partner side,” she explained. “For me, it’s really that active member rate. If you don’t have active customers that are seeing the value of the program, you’re not going to meet the other metrics that are really important to showcase the value of a program long-term.”

For Daily’s, Pritchett is translating that philosophy into practice across more than 100 company-operated locations in Florida and North Carolina. With a slogan that promises, “It’s nicer here,” Daily’s is developing a single app that integrates car wash subscriptions, loyalty, and CPG offers alongside Shell Fuel Rewards. Pritchett commented, “We feel like with that, we want to meet the customer where they are, and we know that they have Fuel Rewards, and that’s pretty simple and easy for them. So why not allow them to stack their offers with Daily’s and make it that much more beneficial for the customer?”

Both guests pointed to simplicity and value as the new cornerstones of successful loyalty programs. Pritchett noted that consumers want “one app” that does it all, while Amerson sees integration with payments and instant rewards as the next major evolution. “We’re impatient now as consumers. So building in a mechanism that makes it easy and where they instantly see that value is just the experience that they get to have with it.”

Together, these ladies of loyalty are redefining convenience one connection at a time, reminding retailers that engagement begins and endures when customers feel recognized, rewarded, and truly valued.
