István Kapitány and Henry Armour Discuss the Future of Mobility

Shop Talk LIVE caught up with István Kapitány, Global Executive Vice President for Mobility at Shell and Henry Armour, President and CEO at NACS during the recent Shell Global Growth supplier event in London.

In a wide ranging interview, Insight Managing Director and host Dan Munford asked István and Henry about their global outlook post pandemic, how they see the energy transition and the mobility revolution developing. Both see tremendous opportunity in such a fast changing world, an opportunity to ‘re-set the table’, redefine business capabilities and purpose.

The pace of change is very fast – Shell is not the number one fuel retailer in the UK, but, according to Kapitány, Shell has now grown to be the number one EV charging retailer in the UK.

Both Armour and Kapitány acknowledged the scale of the task in energy transition – producing an EV charging supply chain for the World. Henry focused in on the ‘micro’ side of the transition, drawing historical comparisons with the early evolution of the liquid fuels market and current constraints the industry is under to sell electricity at a profit at retail level. NACS are very focused on this as the policies of the Biden administration begin to make themselves felt in the US.

Towards the end of the interview, Dan asked both participants to give their future views on the shape of the industry. How can the convenience and energy industry be positioned for the benefit of society? Mobility is changing and it will be a different mobility industry in the future.

Insight’s events team have organised Shell Global Growth supplier events for the last 8 years, which transitioned to a virtual broadcast, live from a TV studio in 2020 and 2021.
