Copec Electrostation, Santiago, Chile
Entry profile – ‘Best EV Hub in the World’ 2025 – Urban
Copec’s Electrostation, Chile’s first 100% electric service station, is located in Vitacura, Santiago. Unlike traditional charging hubs built from the ground up, the Electrostation was the first in the country (and the region) to be transformed from a conventional fuel station into a cutting-edge facility that can charge up to six vehicles simultaneously.
Designed with sustainability at its core, the station features a striking wooden structure sourced from FSC-certified forests, that locks in over 45 tons of carbon, contributing to long-term carbon storage. As the first of its kind in Latin America, this station sets a new benchmark for sustainable infrastructure, blending innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

EV Charging
Copec’s EV charging infrastructure is owned and operated by Copec Voltex, the company’s dedicated electromobility subsidiary, offering a fast and convenient experience for all types of electric vehicle users.
The station features six DC fast chargers, with power levels of 180 kW, 120 kW, and 50 kW, compatible with both CCS and CHAdeMO standards. While primarily designed for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, the chargers also support heavy-duty vehicles like electric buses and trucks.
To enhance the customer experience, the chargers are located under a canopy-covered area, providing protection from the elements, and are positioned near the Pronto Copec store and leisure spaces, ensuring easy access to food, restrooms, and a comfortable waiting area.
The site is well-lit for security and usability at all hours, and a dedicated team is on-site to assist customers when needed.
A Gogoro battery-swapping station with 28 batteries allows electric motorcycle users to replace depleted batteries in seconds, making it a key mobility hub for both individual riders and last-mile delivery fleets. This station can serve up to 112 riders on a daily basis.
The entire operation runs on 100% renewable energy, supplied by Copec’s subsidiary, Copec EMOAC. Charging is fully integrated with APP Copec, which allows users to find the nearest Copec Voltex station, check real-time charger availability, track their session and pay.
Utilisation rate
The method used to calculate utilization is to use the average time per transaction and the average transactions per day. This results in a total usage of 28 hours per day, which, when divided among the 3 chargers, gives a utilization rate of 40% of the day’s hours.
Uptime
The method used is to convert the day’s hours into a percentage, meaning 24 hours corresponds to 100%. Then, the time the charger is out of service is evaluated. The uptime of the charging station was 100% for the month of February.
Maintenance
A remote monitoring platform is used, where a team is available 24/7 to check the station’s status. In case of any incidents, an attempt is made to resolve the issue remotely. If this is not possible, a specialized technician is dispatched to address the situation. Additionally, preventive maintenance is carried out semi-annually, providing basic maintenance to the equipment.
Additional Mobility offers
In the adjacent service station, there’s an offer of traditional liquid fuels, including diesel, and gasoline of 93, 95 and 97 octanes. There are 6 isles, which amount to 12 pumps.
Integrated Customer Journey
Copec charging stations are fully integrated into APP Copec, providing a seamless experience for EV drivers. The app allows users to locate stations, pay for charging, and access personalized benefits—all in one place.
With real-time station availability, drivers can plan routes efficiently, while digital payments eliminate the need for physical terminals. APP Copec also rewards users with Copec Full points for every charge, redeemable at Pronto Copec stores, and offers instant perks like free coffee for completing charging missions.
APP Copec also provides full transparency and control, allowing users to track their charging history and receive real-time updates on their session. The app can also send push notifications with alerts about station availability, maintenance updates, and new features, ensuring users are always informed.
Beyond the app, Copec actively engages with its EV community through social media, sharing educational content on electromobility, updates on promotions and new developments, and direct interactions to answer customer questions.
Ease of Payment
Paying for EV charging at Copec E1 is designed to be simple, digital, and hassle-free.
The price per kWh is clearly displayed on a tall on-site totem, showing both peak and off-peak rates, as well as in APP Copec, ensuring full transparency before users begin their charging session.
Once charging is complete, the total cost and energy consumed are displayed on both the charger screen and the user’s app, where customers can also access their charging history.
All EV charging payments are processed through APP Copec, which securely links the user’s account to any prepaid, debit, or credit card. Additionally, users can opt for Copec Pay, a free digital account with no maintenance fees, offering an even more streamlined payment experience. The entire process is fully digital, requiring just a few taps on a smartphone—eliminating the need for physical payment terminals at the chargers.
For added convenience, the Pronto Copec store accepts a variety of payment methods, including credit and debit cards from all national banks, prepaid cards from Chilean online banks like Tenpo, contactless payments via Apple Pay and Google Pay, and cash. An NFC reader at the store enables quick and effortless transactions for customers on the go.
Company overview
Copec S.A., established in 1934, is a leading energy company in Chile, with a deep commitment to sustainability and innovation. Originally focused on fuel distribution, Copec has successfully transformed its business model, now offering a comprehensive range of solutions in renewable energy, mobility, and convenience. The company operates 693 service stations and 300 Pronto Copec stores across Chile.
Copec pioneered electromobility in Chile, installing its first public EV charger in 2012 under the name Voltex in one of their service stations—when fewer than 50 electric vehicles were on the roads. That same year, it expanded the network to facilitate intercity travel, becoming the first private company to drive EV adoption. In 2019, Copec took a major step by creating Copec Voltex, a dedicated subsidiary to accelerate electromobility.
Today, Copec Voltex operates South America’s longest continuous EV charging network at service stations, covering 2,200 km from Copiapó in the north to Castro in the south. It also deploys charging solutions in shopping malls and other public spaces, as well as through public-private partnerships, including an initiative to install chargers in every district of Santiago. Additionally, it powered Latin America’s first electric fire truck.
Beyond passenger vehicles, Copec Voltex leads in electroterminals for public transportation, supplying energy to over 2,000 electric buses, representing 52% of the market. It also develops charging infrastructure for private-sector fleets, supporting heavy transport, last-mile delivery, and mining. In heavy transport, Copec Voltex built Chile’s largest electric truck charging hub at Walmart Quilicura, which powers 50 electric 45-ton trucks. In the mining sector, it developed EV charging hubs for Codelco, with 94 charging points that supply energy to over 150 electric buses operating in the El Teniente, Andina, and Chuquicamata mines.
